Our Vision Statement

Empowering the learners of today for the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow.

Our Mission Statement
Castaic Union School District, in partnership with the community, provides children with a creative and collaborative learning environment supported by a safe and nurturing atmosphere that creates life-long learners and empowers them to be critical thinkers in a global community.

Our Core Values
The Castaic Union School District endorses values with the intention and purpose to promote:

  • Respect for individuality, diversity, and shared decision-making.
  • Global citizenship, community involvement, strong families, and social responsibility.
  • Individuals who have the character and confidence to stand by their convictions.
  • Setting high academic and achievement expectations by promoting relevant and rigorous curriculum using real world applications.
  • Individual success by being proactive and innovative through creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration.

About Our District
Castaic Union School District is a suburban school district located in the Santa Clarita Valley, in the northern portion of Los Angeles County. Castaic serves nearly 2,500 students in grades kindergarten through eight in four schools. We also offer transitional kindergarten and preschool opportunities. Castaic students attend Valencia High School in the William S. Hart Union High School District. The Hart District is planning to build the Castaic High School for a potential opening in 2019. The District employs 110 certificated, 124 classified, 16 confidential, and 12 administrative personnel.

Modern, High-Achieving Schools
Three of our four schools have been honored as California Distinguished Schools. Our district API Score is 842. Castaic's original one-room schoolhouse was built in 1892 and began with 20 children. Since that humble beginning, our district has grown and modernized, including the latest in educational technology resources. Castaic Middle School opened in Fall 1996, Castaic Elementary School was completely rebuilt and reopened in Fall 1997, Northlake Hills Elementary School opened in September 2003, and  Live Oak Elementary School opened in January 1989 and is currently in process of being modernized with a target date of completion in 2017.

Highly-Qualified Teachers
Our teachers are fully credentialed by the State of California, and they participate in ongoing staff development opportunities provided by the District. The Board established the Castaic Education Foundation, which provides grants to teachers' selected projects that will enhance the District's education program.

Educational Technology

Our schools offer state-of-the-art educational technology. We are in the last phase of our wireless project that will give wireless access to all classrooms to work in conjunction with our Google Chromebook initiative to give our students access to cutting edge technology. We are a member of the Microsoft Imagine Academy that delivers innovative use of technology to help our students develop technical skills that will give them an edge in their future careers. Our classrooms are equipped with Smart Board technology and our labs have the most current Microsoft and Google programs available.  We have a robust internet filtering software to keep our students safe while on the district network.  Our students have access to the latest technology devices such as Google Chromebooks and Apple IPad’s. Our high speed internet will be upgraded for the 2016-2017 school year from 100MB to 200MB to offer students and faculty a faster way of getting information to enhance the instructional experience. Our Middle School has a high-tech video lab, closed-circuit TV, and video conferencing capability. Our Elementary Schools have high-tech library/media centers and all schools have structured computer and science labs.

Our Community
The region, while primarily suburban in nature, has an active and thriving business component. It provides easy access to many educational and cultural advantages of the greater Los Angeles metropolitan areas. The vast offering includes Southland beaches, deserts, and mountain areas that contribute to the attractiveness of the Castaic Union School District as a place to live and work. The Interstate-5 freeway, Highway 14 and Highway 126, are close and provide excellent access to all of Southern California.

Recreation & Points of Interest
We are located five minutes from Castaic Lake and 20 minutes from Piru and Pyramid Lakes for boating, fishing, and water skiing. Five minutes from Magic Mountain Amusement Park. Forty-five minutes from Ventura Beach. Twenty-five minutes from Burbank Airport, and 45 minutes from Los Angeles International Airport. Ninety minutes from ski resorts, 30 minutes from Dodger Stadium, The Getty Museum, and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. For shopping, we have Valencia Town Center, an air conditioned mall with 200 retail stores and eateries, within 10 minutes of Castaic.
